Research
The chair deals with conflicts at different levels. For example, when analysing civil wars the possible influence of the ethnic constellation in the affected area is examined. The issues are also looked at in a wider context as the effect of macro-historical processes such as nation-building and state collapse or democratisation. One important research method is "agent-based modelling". This method allows dynamic systems of interacting components (e.g. the development of democracies in the international system, reconstructions of scales of conflict and demographics) to be illustrated.
